Weekend in Atlanta

So, this last weekend we went to Atlanta without the kid, just to get away. We stayed with my uncle, who lives just out of Atlanta and took the MARTA into downtown on Saturday. It was freezing cold because of course, the weather just can’t cooperate when we want to get out and do something!

So, that morning we went to the Georgia Aquarium.

We have to go back sometime next year because they’re going to open up a dolphin exhibit! I hope it’s late enough in the year that Little Bit will be old enough to enjoy it and can go with us. They’re also going to put out these dolphins that have been decorated by local artists, all over the city. Maybe we can track all of those down too. That would be fun.

After the aquarium, we went to lunch. We ate at the Mellow Mushroom. I didn’t take any pics of the food, but let me assure you – it was really good. I think I will definitely be trying out the one here in town.

After lunch, we went to the High Museum of Art, where a Salvador Dali exhibit is on display. It’s the only place in the country that this exhibit is going to be. It’s of his late work and had a lot of really nice stuff, including some of the portraits he did on commission and jewelry he designed. Pictures weren’t allowed in the exhibit, unfortunately, but it was so neat. It’s there until Jan. 9th, so go if you can.

As we got off the MARTA stop and headed toward the museum, this house was there, just sitting in the middle of skyscrapers. It was so incongruous that I had to take a picture. Very cool.

They also had an exhibit of the Venetian artist Titian. His work is fabulous too, just in a very different way from Dali.

So, that was our weekend. It was a short trip, but a good one. It was nice to get away, just the two of us. After the first of the year, the High Museum is going to have an exhibit of Toulouse Lautrec, so we will definitely be going back.

Until next time!
